Back Pain Tips

Most of us are probably guilty of spending hours on end sitting in front of a computer.  The position and posture in which we naturally sit, unbeknownst to us, is doing more harm to our bodies than good– which is where the aches and pains of back problems come from 

There are many things you can do to help alleviate back soreness and aches, some of which include: 

  • Massages 
  • Yoga 
  • Daily Stretches 

While I do recommend stretching daily and indulging yourself in a massage occasionally, we do have one more trick that could help with those back pains in no time.  And that is…switching out your office chair for a body ball!  Here are the many benefits of it and why you should give it a try: 

  1. Burn calories while you work. 

Sitting on a body ball vs an office chair forces you to maintain better posture since you are being “supported” by less than a traditional office chair.   

  1. Tones core muscles.

To maintain that proper posture on the ball, instead of slouching, you must engage your core.  By keeping your core tight and engaged, you’re helping to sculpt those stubborn ab muscles once and for all! 

  1. Motivates additional stretching and moving of the body

In addition to the above, there are many other things you can implement into your day as sitting, whether that be on a body ball or office chair, for 8 hours is not good for anybodyTake time in the middle of the day to do a quick walk, drink plenty of water, and stand while working. These are all great tips to keep your body and mind awake and engaged during those crucial hours in which you may need energy the most.   

There are a variety of body ball sizes over on to choose from, ranging from 55 to 75 cm balls. So how do you choose which size is best for you?  

  • If you are between 4’11 and 5’4, ideal size choose the 55 cm ball 
  • if you are between 5’5 and 5’11, ideal size choose the 65 cm ball 
  • if you are over 6 feet and over, ideal size choose the 75 cm ball 

Overall a body ball can be used for so much more than just an “office chair”. They are great for low impact workouts you can do to target your abs, legs, and arms. This fitness product combines the 3 elements of a great workout- balance, flexibility, and strength.
