Who is Keri?
Nationally recognized celebrity nutritionist, registered dietitian, healthy cooking expert and published author Keri Glassman is the founder and president of Keri Glassman, Nutritious Life, a nutrition practice and health and wellness brand, as well as The Nutrition School, a 12-week online course created to provide an unprecedented nutrition education and a springboard for building a successful career in health and wellness. She has dedicated her career to creating services and promoting education through her Nutritious Life brand. For over a decade, Keri has been a leader in advancing a “whole person” approach to health and wellness. She launched Nutritious Life Magazine, a free health and wellness app that aims to take users’ nutrition up a notch, and was also the first registered dietitian to create a real food based snack bar, KeriBar.
Women’s Health Magazine embraces Keri’s practical and accessible approach. She is a member of their advisory board and writes a popular monthly column called “Lighten Up” and authors a page called “Buy 5 Drop 5” in every issue. She is on the advisory board for Yahoo Health, is the Health and Wellness partner for JW Marriott hotels, and contributes weekly to People Magazine where she critiques a celeb’s diet. Keri is also the health expert for the Today Show Tastemakers team and blogs monthly for Livestrong.com and Foodnetwork.com. Keri was Lead Nutritionist for Turner’s health and wellness entertainment brand, upwave, and the Nutritionist and Judge on the healthy cooking competition show, “Cook Your Ass Off”.
Shaping Your Mind and Body
Keri has authored four books; the most recent book, The New You and Improved Diet (Rodale, Dec 2012) gives readers the 8 rules they need to lose weight and change their life forever. Slim Calm Sexy Diet (Rodale, March 2012), helps readers lose weight, conquer stress, and feel and look their best every day. The O2 Diet (Rodale, Dec 2009), translates complex scientific research on antioxidants into useful and useable tools that empower people to live a more Nutritious Life. The Snack Factor Diet (Crown, 2007) illustrates that snacking helps readers become energetic, feel younger, and lose weight. Keri also contributed to Editor-In-Chief of Women’s Health Magazine, Michele Promaulayko’s books, Look Better Naked (Rodale, 2010) and 20 Pounds Younger (Rodale, 2014).
- What does your morning routine look like?
I’m up at 5:30. I take a few minutes to myself to just sit quiet. Sometimes outside, sometimes in the living room. Then, I drink coffee and get myself organized for the day by going through some emails, scheduling or knocking off one or two deadlines on my immediate to-do list. 7:05 I wake the kids. Then, it’s breakfast, get dressed for school etc. until 8:05. We all eat breakfast together at 7:40. After drop off at school, I exercise! Sometimes I’ll get the workout in before I wake up the kids but usually I hammer out some work and workout after drop off.
- Morning bird or night owl?
Morning 100%!! Always have been.
- What’s your go-to healthy breakfast?
Either a smoothie – almond milk, almond butter and/or avocado, spinach and protein powder. Or, a slice of Ezekial toast with mashed avocado and a hard boiled egg.
- Name one thing you are insecure about?
Don’t we all have lots? I would say I have become secure with my multiple insecurities. Embracing them is the confident thing you can do!
- What is your proudest achievement?
- What does a typical day of eating look like for you?
Well, you got breakfast. Mid morning an egg if I didn’t have at breakfast or small handful of nuts and a green juice.Lunch – usually a big salad with protein, loads of veggies, one or two healthy fatsI always have another snack in the afternoon that includes usually avocado, nuts or coconut – sometimes in smoothie form, sometimes just on it’s own or in sometimes as part of a mini snack/recipe – such as coconut mixed with nuts and seeds I usually have a green tea or a kombucha here as well. I used to hate kombucha but I recently started loving. Dinner – if it’s home it always includes raw veggies, cooked veggies and lean protein and sometimes sweet potato or a whole grain. I usually have chamomile tea and a little dark chocolate after dinner.
- Can you give us one idea for adding 5 minutes of exercise into your normal day?
If I am traveling or just having one of those days where I completely miss a workout I always try to get in 3 planks, 3 sets up push ups and 3 sets of dips. You can do this anywhere!
- What is your ‘go-to’ workout when short on time?
A run or a a Tabata workout. Usually for a solid sweat and mental decompression I’ll choose the run.
- Who inspires you, and why?
Sounds so cliche, but, my kids. I admire so many people but ultimately I want to be a better person in all areas of life every day for my kids. Also, my TNS students – you know I have my Nutritious Life Certification and seeing these people follow their dreams in health and wellness is mind-blowing and such a good reminder of how much I LOVE what I do.
- What’s your biggest piece of advice for someone who’s trying to jump into a healthy lifestyle?
It’s not all about the food – don’t forget to pay as much attention to sleep, stress, water and relationships as much as food. Weigh all these areas equally and they will all support each other in your healthy efforts.
- What does Fit Strong and Sexy mean to you?
Feeling strong is always better than feeling skinny. It is mentally so much more powerful. When you feel strong, you want to conquer the world and really what is more sexy than a woman on a mission?
