The market is oversaturated with products and services to improve your health, here’s a round up of topics of specific interest, and the products that really work and BIG thanks to BabbleBoxx.com on behalf of Single Edition Media who so kindly sponsored this post.
Alright ladies, I LOVE to shop… don’t we all? But the general population tends to invest in the usual suspects; fashion, beauty, home goods, fitness…am I wrong?
However, a personal health scare, alongside the death of a close family member several months ago caused me to realize something, when it comes to fitness, true fitness, it requires you being ‘healthy’, and we don’t address that until our health has been taken from us.
So we need to do better about being pro-active.
I started tested out and investing in different things to improve my overall health and well-being – outside of exercise that is!
Many things I tried didn’t work, and I will save that post for another day (note, so you don’t waste your money), but I did want to draw attention to a few ‘outside the box’ products I tried and WOULD recommend and why
And since we all have short attention spans, I’m doing a short round up – just 4 items, ready?
- Healthy Choice Power Bowls: I admit, I am one of the weird ones who loves the grocery store andcould literally spend hours discovering new products, reading the labels and strolling the aisles. One product I’m always fascinated with is the frozen ready-to-go meals section.
I’m not sure what it is about the imagery on those boxes, but they suck me in every time, and no matter how many disappointments that come with the various ones I tried, I keep going back.
And you know what they say. If you keep trying, eventually you will succeed, and succeed I did!!
The winner: Healthy Choice Power Bowls. They actually taste as good as the meals I make, and probably more balanced and cost effective by the time I buy all the ingredients, then the time value of cooking them up, packing them for lunch.
Half the time it doesn’t happen and I resort to something ‘on-the-go’ like an over processed bar (on a good day).
Fave flavors I’m loving are the ‘International Cuisine-inspired ones, specifically:
- Korean-Inspired Beef Bowl:
- Chicken Sausage & Barley Bowl
- Cuban-Inspired Pork Bowl
Also worth noting: Healthy Choice is the only major brand in its category that can call 100 percent of its products “healthy” as approved by the FDA.
Dental Health & Fertility– YES dental health affects more than just your aesthetic desire for pearlywhites. Research has shown beyond doubt that women’s fertility and healthy births are linked to oral health is a serious truth (note: Dental health also affects the fertility in men).
So whether or not you want children, or even want the option to conceive, you need to be aware that various oral diseases and the treatments used to cure that can seriously affect fertility and the pregnancy.
There are super simple things you can do, which won’t cost you any more than what you already are doing, assuming you DO brush your teeth?
So what should you do? It’s simple, brush and floss properly, and with quality toothpaste and floss. Seems trivial right? Not at all, you theoretically brushing 2-3 times per day, make it count.
I used to be cheap and buy whatever toothpaste was on sale until my dentist told me to suck it up and pay the extra .50 – $1 and use a quality toothpaste like Arm & Hammer.
Essentially all Arm& Hammer toothpastes you can trust have the same ingredients:
Baking soda, to help with stain removal.
- Peroxide, to provide a slow gentle whitening, and also to help your gums.
- Fluoride, which strengthens tooth enamel against decay-causing bacteria.
So it really just comes down to your flavor preference.
But remember, you have to use the toothpaste CORRECTLY.
This means you actually should brush for 6 minutes at minimum (yes 6 FULL minutes is what dentists recommend), & use a quality electric toothbrush.
Trust me the cost of fixing problems after they start is WAY more expensive! There are times to be cheap, this is NOT one of them, oral health should not be taken lightly.
And on another note – bad breath won’t win you any friends, although it will make you remembered, just not the way you may want.
Live Longer and Healthier –I’ve talked about being proactive about your health, but that’s easier said then done, right? Plus how do you monitor your success without any metrics or starting points?
Good news, it’s 2017, the shear fact that there is technology out there to keep you aware and accountable all the time provides no excuse not to be. There is something about knowing exactly where you are at, and having the numbers flash before you, that make you exponentially more likely to meet your goals.
We all know about companies such as Fitbit, Jawbone and Garmin focus on the number of steps youtake, and while that is all well and good, The Mio Slice isn’t like any fitness tracker I’ve seen before. Sure, it can track steps, distance, calories burned, sleep and heart rate. But it may be the first tracker which promises, to actually help you live longer and reduce your risk of lifestyle-related diseases.
The MIO Global company developed a metric that monitors and tracks your heart rate information to show how your body responds to physical activity.
It uses your heart rate information to calculate a PAI Score (personal activity intelligence), which is your score for optimum health. Unlike tracking steps, a PAI score is personal to you.
And you can bet that I became not only aware of this score, but motivated to keep it above 100.
Why 100 ? No it is not a random metric pulled out of thin air, the PAI score is based on a large-scale health study in Norway that linked activity levels to overall health and longevity. A PAI score of 100 or more is determined to prolong your life by 10 years and provide maximum protection from diseases.
Not to mention that it helps you track your sleep, your steps, and is super slim and easy to wear (Iactually received compliments on it), and find myself wanting to wear it throughout the day.
The best part; it allows you to stop obsessing about the number on the scale which drives negative
thoughts and unhealthy behavior and start focusing on your PAI score, and watch the positive changes that occur, not only in your body but also your state of mind.
Find out your GENETICS! 23andMe – Ok, I just had to bring this one up, it is the ultimate conversationtopic and peaked my curiosity -it’s a DNA test! Whether you want to know what genetic predispositions you have, or are interested in your ancestry, or trying to find a bragging point – your 17th cousin is Tom Brady, what?) 😉
This is seriously cool, and it’s so convenient, you simply do it yourself –they send you the whole kit. You give your saliva sample, mail it back to the lab in the same kit it came in—the postage is pre-paid, they send your genetic results back to you – in a way you can understand.
Your DNA is made of 23 chromosomes, those chromosomes say a LOT bout you, now you can determine what they say, and with confidence. I did some digging and 23andMe performs all of its analysis in US laboratories that are certified to meet CLIA standards—the highest standards in technology for DNA testing!
I can’t wait to get my results back; I’ll have to share with you in round two!
I hope you enjoyed this post, it’s unique for me to do product reviews – but I come across SO many new and innovative brands and products, it was time I did a round up! Have you tried any of the products? Do tell!
